Saltwater Stocking Calculator
Plan your reef or fish-only marine tank. Add your tank size and livestock, and we'll calculate your stocking level and flag reef-safe issues, aggression and territory conflicts, tang and angelfish tank-size needs, and species that should be kept one-per-tank.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the saltwater calculator work?
It compares total bioload against a conservative marine capacity (reef systems are sensitive), then runs species checks: minimum tank size, reef-safe status, aggression, one-per-tank species, tang and dwarf-angel conflicts, and clownfish mixing.
Why does it warn about tangs?
Tangs are active, territorial grazers that need lots of swimming room — most need 70–75 gallons or more, and keeping multiple tangs requires a large tank (125 gal+) and careful selection. The calculator flags both.
