Saltwater Stocking Calculator

Plan your reef or fish-only marine tank. Add your tank size and livestock, and we'll calculate your stocking level and flag reef-safe issues, aggression and territory conflicts, tang and angelfish tank-size needs, and species that should be kept one-per-tank.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the saltwater calculator work?

It compares total bioload against a conservative marine capacity (reef systems are sensitive), then runs species checks: minimum tank size, reef-safe status, aggression, one-per-tank species, tang and dwarf-angel conflicts, and clownfish mixing.

Why does it warn about tangs?

Tangs are active, territorial grazers that need lots of swimming room, most need 70–75 gallons or more, and keeping multiple tangs requires a large tank (125 gal+) and careful selection. The calculator flags both.
